MARGARET THATCHER



Margaret Thatcher, known as "The Iron Lady" was the first woman prime minister of the United Kingdom and the first European woman to serve as a prime minister. She was a radical conservative and she was also the first incumbent prime minister in the UK removed on a vote of their own party. Before becoming prime minister, she was a politician at lower levels and a research chemist.
After college, she went to work as a research chemist. She stayed involved in politics, going to The Conservative Party Conference in 1948 representing Oxford graduates. During this time, she met Denis Thatcher and they were married on December 13, 1951. They have had two twins, Mark and Carol. In 2013 she died of a stroke in London at the age of 87.
