BEOWULF

Image result for beowulfBeowulf is the only literary text in Old English, which survives in a manuscript dated between 675 AD and 1000 AD. It was written in vers and it use a lot of alliteration.
For the first time it was an oral poem, then it was written.

Beowulf himself is a traditional hero who travels great distances to prove his courage. He is the most famous warrior in the land of the geats.

Early in the poem, Beowulf crosses the sea to the land of the Danes in order to free their country of their mortal enemy, the man-eating monster Grendel. After killing the monster, Beowulf returns triumphant to his homeland and rules for fifty years as king there.
Grendel's mother wants to avenge his son's death and she try to kill Beowulf, but in the fight Beowulf kill Grendal's mother.
But the hero is a mortal man. When a dragon begins to terrorise the land of the Geats, Beowulf confronts and kills it, but he also meets his own death thus entering the legends of his people as a hero-warrior.
